"42nd Street Forever: Blu-ray Edition (2012/Blu-ray/Synapse Films)" Review

Review: Of all the reviews I have done I have not been more challenged at doing a review then I have been now at reviewing this compilation of trailers. What you get is a variety of trailers that were hand selected from the first 2 volumes of the 42nd Street Forever series that Synapse has been releasing plus some new ones that have not been in any of the volumes in the series. The genres that are covered are anything from Horror and Exploitation all the way to Kung Fu and Blaxploitation. Practically every genre is covered, of course in the more 70's & 80's Drive-In and Grindhouse theaters.

The thing I always find to be great about the compilations from this series and others that I have seen is that you get introduced to films you have not discovered before then. In ways the only bad part is that it leaves me looking for some of the films and often I can't find them or I go broke buying a ton of them. The ones that I like the most off this comp is the Blaxploitation, some of them look very horrible like "The Guy From Harlem" which looks so bad it makes me want to see it in all it's all around awfulness. Really this is a comp that would be awesome to put on while having a party or even getting a few friends to sit down with and have fun riffing the trailers.
All the trailers from what I can tell are still in their original condition with damage and scratches but really I would hate to see them all polished up and cleaned look like something new. The damage just adds to the awesomeness of the trailers and the films they represent. I really liked how they lumped a few of say the women's revenge films together and then they go on to a few sci-fi trailers in a row and so on and so forth. If you are not in to sleaze or trash cinema then I cannot recommend this to you, but if you are and you are a traileraphile like myself then I couldn't recommend this more!
Overall I was very impressed by the selection and the way they put this compilation together. Also how can you beat being able to see some awesome trailers in HD! Don May Jr. and the rest of the people at Synapse I thank you very much for doing this series of trailer compilations especially this one! You guys hit it out of the fucking park!
