"He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Season 1(1983/1984)" Review

Show Synopsis: The show takes place on the fictional planet of Eternia, a planet of magic, myth and fantasy. The show's lead character is Prince Adam, the young son of Eternia's rulers, King Randor and Queen Marlena. Whenever Prince Adam uses the Power Sword, and when he holds it aloft and says the magic words "By the Power of Grayskull"!" he is transformed into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. Together with his close allies, Battle Cat (who undergoes a similar transformation from being Adam's cowardly pet tiger Cringer), The Sorceress, Teela, Man-At-Arms and Orko, He-Man uses his powers to defend Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor. Skeletor's main goal is to conquer the mysterious fortress of Castle Grayskull, from which He-Man draws his powers. If he succeeds, Skeletor would conquer the whole of Eternia, and possibly the whole universe.

Review: Oh boy watching this show again after so many years brings back so many good memories of my childhood and even one not so great one that consisted of myself being pushed off the top bunk of a bunk bed onto Castle Grayskull and having to get stitches from it! Other than that bad memory I have always continued to love this show despite peoples criticisms of the show being overly "homo-erotic". Anyways what you get in this set is the complete first season all in one pack and on a total of 8 DVD's which also includes 2 documentaries (one of which is in 2 parts),English & Spanish audio tracks, 5 Complete Episode Scripts, 50 detailed profiles of various characters, creatures and artifacts with video. I am not sure if they also did this on the older BCI releases but on this set it is put in the story continuity order which is a tad different from the broadcast order.
Now when it comes to the audio and video quality, well they both are excellent! The picture is just as good as I remember it being back in the 80's and quite possibly even better than I remember! The sound is great as well and doesn't sound overly compressed like what you get sometimes with these sets. I highly recommend this set from Mill Creek to people who grew up with this show and to those who want to introduce this to their children to a fantasy show that also has a moral lesson at the end of every episode.
Overall this is a great show that comes in this great set that will save you a ton of money opposed to spending a ton on the older BCI releases that are now OOP! I can't wait to see what they do with the second season which is due out in September!
