"The Possession of David O'Reilly (2009)" Review

Review: I must start off this review by saying "screw paranormal activity!" this film I am reviewing here is the real deal when it comes to paranormal films! Unlike the boring and lame film I mentioned, this film has an absolute perfect blend of suspense and horror that will take you to the edge of insanity and push you over. The plot in ways is pretty basic, what happens is one night this couple their friend David come crash at their house in the middle of the night unexpectedly and after the couple goes to bed David ends up seeing something outside that looks like a very mutilated human and he is freaked out, one thing leads to the next and the next night comes around and all hell breaks loose and he lets the couple know about what he saw and from there it is a roller coaster of terror all the way until the shocking ending. The plot reminds me in ways of something I could see Clive Barker writing as well as directing. I was seriously on the edge of my seat most of the movie, once this film grabbed ahold of me it did not let go. One other thing I can say is that this film will make you question what is going on and will pull you through some damn good twists and turns. You only really deal with 3 main characters and 1 other character so for the most part is was pretty easy to get to know what was going on with each individual without getting confused. I must say all of them were likable and very convincing. Now when it comes to the special effects there is some done here and from the looks of it all of it was practical effects. The few parts where their is gore are done beautifully and as far as the creatures go they look awesome as well and even one of them had a part of their body that resembled the creature from "The Deadly Spawn (1983)" which was awesome. Now I must warn you that these creatures in the film for the most part you will not be able to make out the detail of them because it is dark and even when they use a night vision effect you will get some detail but not too much. I won't say anything else about the film because I do not want to ruin it for anyone, but I will say that if you are into horror then please do not hesitate on picking this one up because you will be kicking yourself later for not watching it sooner! Overall this was an excellent film that took the ghost type of film to the next level and left me wanting to be terrified all over again!
